When the water starts boiling cover and reduce the heat to low. Bring a large pot of water to boil using at least 6 cups water per 1 cup rice. Combine rice 1 1 2 cups water salt and a drizzle of oil in a saucepan.
Reduce the heat so that the rice stays at a low simmer and cover the pot. Allow the rice to simmer for 20 40 minutes. Reduce heat to low and simmer covered until the rice is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed 40 to 45 minutes.
Over high heat combine rice and water and bring to a boil. Reduce the temperature as necessary to prevent overflow but maintain a steady boil.
