How to cook oats on stove. Put 1 cup 235 ml of water or milk and a dash of salt in a medium size pot. Bring the water and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium high heat. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook oats until soft 20 to 30 minutes stirring occasionally.
If all the liquid has reduced before your oats are tender stir in a bit more water or milk and continue to cook. Reduce the heat to a simmer. Set your stove to high heat and bring your water to a rolling boil.
Using 1 cup 235 ml of liquid and 0 5 cup 45 g of oats will make a serving of oats for 1 person. Bring the water and salt to a boil. If you are using less water keep a close watchful eye so that it doesn t burn or dry out too much.
Watch the pot for when the liquid reaches a boil.
